Reciprocal Links can be a good friend to the web master. By exchanging links with other webmasters you can get many websites to keep a link to your web site on their web sites and in return you have to put a link to their site on your web site. When the search engine indexes you site it looks and all the links on your site and it marks them on a list. The sites with more links to them are considered more important then sites with lower links back to them. Some webmasters have more then one website and what they do is put links on all of their sites to all the different pages of their other sites to make the sites seem like they have more links, this is called link farming.
Garbage:
In the world of online marketing the more people u reach the more people that may check out your site. In an attempt to get more traffic webmasters have bought lists of email address and regularly send garbage emails called Spam. These emails advertise everything from Viagra to Rolex replicas so amazing a professional can not tell the difference, but the webmasters did not stop there. Email is not the only source for their garbage. Some webmasters have even made websites and filled them with garbage content packed with keywords designed to brig their sits up on as many different search engine searches as they can. On these websites there is no content of any interest and chances are none of it is even remotely relate to the subject you were doing the search for in the first place. These sites only exist so that you will come to the site and hopefully leave thru one of the many links provided on the page. The links are to partner sites that pay for each person who you get to come to their site. Sites like this are also Spam.

No matter what your site is about you have to have text on your pages. This text is used by the search engines to determine your relevancy in a keyword search. If your site is about blankets words like blanket, comforter or duvet will probably appear often on the site. The search engines recognize this and will use this information to bring up your page when someone types in the relevant words. Besides making sure that the text is relevant to your site it is also important to change and add text on a regular basis.

Did you ever wonder how a site gets its page rank? Each search engine does it a bit different but the basics are the same. They have a rating system and once a month they check every website on the internet and the sites get put thru this rating process. They check things like ease of use, popularity, content changes since the last time it was checked and they come up with a number and that becomes your page ranking.
