Halfway through the year. In the wee hours of 2005 I made a promise, resolution, covenant with myself ... whatever you want to call it ... to acquire less music this year and spend more time with each record. I've done better, but I still have records that I am not as familiar with as I'd like to be. Somehow the great ones end up sticking out and getting heard, but many of my all-time favorites are ones that didn't grab me initially, so I still have that suspicion that I may be missing out on something great. For instance, my favorite record of all-time, OK Computer by Radiohead really took some time to grow on me, and if I hadn't given it that 6th or 7th spin, I would've missed out on Kid A, Amnesiac and Hail To the Thief, all of which are classics in my collection. Anyway, enough rambling ... Here is my top 10 so far of 2005, with a caveat that some cd's I own, I just haven't gotten to listen enough to include, and some that I list below, I may be sick of by the end of the year. So here goes, in no particular order ...

Records tend to fall off metacritic after a certain amount of time. That's actually where I learned of Bloc Party and Stars. Feist was introduced to me by Frank at chromewaves. Indie is an over-used term, just as "alternative" was in the '90's. I prefer the terms "fresh" and "sincere".
Posted by: tom at July 7, 2005 10:37 AMadmit it - you are so indie that it disappeared for awhile and you'll pulled back into being in style again.
Posted by: diatriber at July 7, 2005 03:41 PMAlright, I'll admit it. But that doesn't mean I don't still love "Private Eyes" by Hall & Oates and "Photograph" by Def Leppard.
